to frequently asked questions
I work with tall cakes (around 15 cm), which means they serve more people than standard bakery cakes. The exact number of servings depends on the size you choose and the way the cake is sliced.
Here’s a quick guide:
-
6 inch – around 12–15 servings
-
7 inch – around 18–20 servings
-
8 inch – around 22–26 servings
-
9 inch – around 25–30 servings
-
10 inch – around 30–38 servings
-
12 inch – up to 56 servings
For tiered cakes, the serving count increases significantly — for example:
-
4” + 6” – 20–22 servings
-
6” + 8” – 34–38 servings
Because my cakes are tall, they must be cut in vertical strips, not wedges. This cutting method ensures clean slices and provides the correct number of servings. You’ll receive full slicing instructions with your order. To be sure what size of cake you need – please read my complete Cake size and Portion guide.
I recommend booking as early as possible, especially during busy wedding and summer seasons.
Here’s a quick guide:
-
Wedding cakes: ideally 6–12 months in advance (dates fill up very quickly). Minimum booking time is 1 month.
-
Celebration cakes: usually 2–3 weeks in advance.
-
Last-minute orders: may be possible if I have availability, but not guaranteed.
Since I take a limited number of orders each week to maintain quality, early enquiries always have the best chance of securing your date.
Every cake is priced individually, based on the size, design complexity, and the finishing style you choose. I specialise in bespoke luxury cakes, so pricing reflects the time, skill and premium ingredients used in each order.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
-
Size: Larger and taller cakes provide more servings and cost more.
-
Design: Elements like palette-knife florals, wafer paper, metallic textures, figurines or detailed structures increase the final price.
-
Finishing options: Ganache, cream cheese, velvet texture or mirror glaze all require different levels of craftsmanship.
Please note: I do not take orders below my minimum price, as this ensures I can maintain the quality and design standard my clients expect.
You can find base prices and serving guides in my Cake Menu, and I’ll provide a personalised quote once we discuss your ideas and requirements.
Every cake design starts with your ideas — colours, theme, inspiration photos or moodboards. During our consultation, we discuss your vision, event style, servings, flavours and preferred finishing techniques.
From there, I create a design that reflects your aesthetic while keeping the structure, proportions and practicality in mind. I don’t copy other designers’ cakes, but I can reinterpret your inspiration into a bespoke Wonderland Bakehouse version.
Once the concept is approved, all decorative elements (wafer paper, palette-knife florals, edible prints, toppers, textures, etc.) are planned and prepared in advance to ensure a refined, cohesive final look.
All cakes are made in a kitchen where all 14 major allergens are present, including gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, peanuts, soy and sesame. Because of this, I cannot offer allergen-free, gluten-free or vegan cakes, and cross-contamination cannot be fully eliminated.
If you or your guests have allergies, please let me know before booking. Full allergen information for each flavour is available in my Allergen Guide, and every order includes a printed allergen label.
Most Wonderland Bakehouse cakes contain fresh dairy-based fillings, so they must be kept refrigerated at 2–5°C until 1–2 hours before serving. Keep the cake in its original box and away from heat, sunlight or strong smells.
When stored correctly, your cake will remain fresh for up to 4 days.
Leftovers should be refrigerated immediately after serving.
Wedding and multi-tier cakes require a bit more care — full storage and handling instructions are provided with every order.
Yes — both options are available.
I deliver across Suffolk, Essex and parts of Norfolk. Delivery is charged £15 across Ipswich and £1.50 per mile outside the city. For cakes, delivered outside the city and tiered / wedding cakes there is a minimum delivery & setup fee. Delivery availability depends on my schedule and your event date.
You can also collect your cake from Ipswich (IP2, Stoke Park area). Cakes must be transported on a flat, cool surface — the front passenger footwell is ideal. Once the cake is collected or delivered and handed over, responsibility for safe transport and storage transfers to the client or venue.
Full delivery and collection guidelines are provided with every order.
Full delivery and collection guidelines are provided with every order, and you can also find detailed information in my Pickup & Delivery Guide.
Yes — fresh or edible flowers can be added to most designs. All florals used on cakes must be food-safe, prepared correctly and free from harmful pesticides. You’re welcome to choose flowers through your florist, or I can help guide you on suitable options.
For wedding cakes, flowers should be delivered to the venue on time so I can arrange them safely during setup. Some delicate flowers are seasonal or unsuitable for food contact, so availability may vary depending on the design and date.
Yes — you can choose a different flavour for each tier. Many clients love mixing two or three flavours to offer more variety to their guests. I’ll guide you on which fillings work best for multi-tier cakes to ensure every tier is stable, balanced and safe for stacking.
All cakes come on a standard engraved board, which is included in the price and matched to the design.
Premium designer boards are included only with multi-tier wedding cakes, as they are part of the overall aesthetic and structure.
For custom celebration cakes, premium boards can be added on request.
Cake stands and display props are also available for rental, depending on availability and the style you need for your event.
Yes — I offer full cake table and dessert table styling for weddings and events. This service is available for an additional fee and can include elements such as fresh florals, candles, linens, stands, décor pieces, and coordinated colour themes to match your event style.
If you have a specific vision, I can create a tailored setup based on your preferences.
I also offer a wide selection of individual desserts (cheesecakes, macarons, mousse cups, cupcakes and more) that beautifully complement your cake and help create a complete, refined dessert display.
Small design updates are usually possible, but they must be made in advance.
For custom cakes, design changes can be made up to 4 days before the event, and for multi-tier cakes — up to 2 weeks before. After this point, materials and preparation work are already underway, so changes may not be possible.
If you need to move your date, this is treated as a new booking and depends on availability. If the new date is unavailable, the original booking is considered a cancellation according to the standard terms.
If you’re unsure about something, just message me — I’ll always try to help within what’s realistically possible.
